Maggie Meister Persephone's Necklace Minaret Earrings & Bacchus Earrings
October 11th & 12th |
Persephone's Necklace Saturday October 11th 10:00am-4:00pm
Description: Persephone was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. Before she became Queen of the Underworld, she helped her mother plant seeds and flowers among the lands of Magna Grecia. When Hades fell in love with Persephone, he brought her to the underworld. Demeter was so distraught that she would allow nothing to grow (Winter) but Persephone was allowed to visit at a certain period of the year and Demeter allowed things to grow once again (Spring).
This necklace was inspired by the ancient necklaces of Greece. The original necklaces were made of gold rosettes and pods from various plants. Using peyote stitch and a variation of the Nepal stitch, we will make various components to represent rosettes, pods and grapes to put together our own version of these wonderful necklaces.
Prerequisite: Participant must be proficient in peyote stitch
Materials: List provided upon registration.
Class Fee: $120.00 + Materials

Minaret Earrings & Bacchus Earrings Sunday October 12th 10:00am-5:00pm
Minaret Earrings Description: While in Turkey, I fell in love with the architecture of the minarets. These earrings were inspired by the large thin towers. The earrings are made beginning with circular peyote evolving into tubular peyote and back to circular. It will become the shape of a spool (also inspired by the ancient Roman spindle beads).
When the spool bead is completed, you will build off the top and bottom of the bead to create a minaret look and then embellish simply.
Bacchus Earrings Description: These earrings are part of the necklace called Penelopes Crown. Grape leaves and grapes were often found on necklaces and funerary crowns (which inspired Penelopes Crown). They represented the god Bacchus. We will combine Right Angle Weave and peyote to make the leaves and learn a variation of Nepal Chain to make the grape clusters.
Prerequisite: Students must know peyote stitch and be familiar with right angle weave.
Materials: Provided upon registration.
Class Fee: $120.00 + Materials
