Bits and Pieces - Upcycle your Bench Scraps
Date: Friday October 12th
Description:
We all have scraps on our workbench that are too big to throw away and perhaps too small or irregularly shaped to be used on their own. In this workshop you will learn how to combine those otherwise useless scraps into a mixed metal, multilayered piece of wearable art. The class will focus on joining metals of different types and gauges using cold as well as soldered connections. Learn how to bezel set a stone that will be combined with your scraps to create a truly unique sculptural piece of jewelry. One or more pieces will be completed during the class session

Southwest Style Rings
Date: Saturday October 13th
Description:

Turquoise and silver jewelry has been a hallmark of the Southwest for well over 150 years. No other jewelry style is so closely tied to a particular geographical location. Learn to create your own turquoise and silver jewelry in the Southwest Style. In this class students will learn the fabrication skills necessary to make one or more turquoise and silver rings.  Several ring shank options will be demonstrated and discussed. This class will require some solder experience but the basics of soldering with silver solder will be reviewed.

Balance Beam Bracelet
Date: Sunday October 14th
Description:
Students will learn design of the bracelet as well as its components: bezel set stone, spring mechanism, clasp and hinge, shaping of metal, annealing and hardening. We will solder, shape, and hammer our way to a custom fit bracelet.

Artist Bio:
I have recently retired from teaching in public schools to devote more time to my art and teaching workshops around the country. I consider myself not so much a jeweler but rather a ‘maker of stuff’. My interests include digital art, mixed media collage/assemblage, sculpture and jewelry. I prefer to work with alternative materials and non-traditional techniques when creating art. My work has been featured in ‘Step-by-Step Wire Jewelry’ and ‘Jewelry Artist’ magazines, Susan Lenart-Kazmer’s book ‘Making Connections’, ‘Collage, Assemblage and Altered Art’ by D. Maurer-Mathison, and 'Exhibition 36' by Susan Tuttle.
