Spiny Knotted Bracelet Workshop
Saturday July 17th - 9:00am-1:00pm

Description:
In the workshop, we’ll use floss and waxed linen to bind beads and other treasures into a bracelet. You’ll also learn how to apply the technique to make a necklace. The materials and methods provide an opportunity for self-expression—there is no pattern to follow, the beads can vary in size, color and shape. Each student in the class creates a bracelet different from the others’. The unusual materials and larger bead sizes (a nice change from the intricate “seed bead” work) seem to level the playing field for beginners and long-time beaders. Most students will complete the bracelet in class.
Button Brooch Workshop
Saturday July 17th - 2:00pm-6:00pm

Description:
Stephanie layers materials and fastens items with fibers to create many of her pieces.  In this 4-hour class, she’ll show you her latest design - a brooch made from beads, waxed linen and a button.  The project will be featured in her book that’s due out in the spring of 2008, but this is your chance to learn the intricacies of the technique from Stephanie herself!  The colors and motifs will be of the students’ choosing and each student’s brooch will look different from the others’.  The class will focus on using waxed linen, a marvelous fiber, to make jewelry from beads and buttons.  Participants will use waxed linen and threads to bind together their beads and treasures into a brooch first, and if time allows, start a ring or pendant made in a similar manner.
Spiny Knotted II - Necklace
Sunday July 18th - 10:00am-5:00pm

Description:
Take your Spiny Knotting skills to the next level! This workshop is for students who have already learned how to make a Spiny Knotted bracelet, can compile their own materials, and are ready to apply the technique to create necklaces with centerpieces and more complex textures. In this workshop, we’ll use floss and waxed linen to bind beads and other treasures into a necklace. The materials and methods provide an opportunity for self-expression—there is no pattern to follow, the beads can vary in size, color and shape. Each student in the class creates a necklace different from the others’.
Artist Bio:
Stephanie is from a family of artists and collectors and has been making jewelry since she was a child. She loves to spend time in her garden, combining different colors and textures, whether beady or floral.
While she works in many media, her signature Spiny-Knotted jewelry incorporates a mixture of her own lampwork beads, vintage glass, ethnic beads, natural materials and fibers. She teaches her beadmaking and jewelry techniques all over the world, and her book Designing Jewelry with Glass Beads was published by Interweave Press in 2008.
