Description: This intense workshop will explore some of the oldest and most versatile methods that metalsmiths use to make marks, including chasing, engraving, and stamping. In each case, the focus will be on working with traditional tools, mostly of our own construction. Each student will learn to harden and temper steel, and will make unique handtools for use in the workshop. While modern equipment will be described, the intention of this workshop is to delve back through time to get at the essence of these techniques, proving at firsthand their enduring vitality.
