Description:
Learn the high relief hammered techniques of chasing and repoussé, used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Celts, and which is little known in the West. Participants will create at least 2 pieces suitable for pins or pendants while learning the secrets of achieving exquisite detail and unsurpassed depth and height.

No tool making required! Victoria will provide sets of tools for use during the workshop that were Swiss machine replicated from her own. She will also provide information on tools making for students interested in making their own tools and stamps, but the majority of class time will be devoted to doing repoussé. Victoria’s work in this technique has been featured in many books and magazines, including Metalsmith, Jewelry Artist, Nancy Megan Corwin’s Chasing & Repoussé, and as the latest DVD in the series, Metal Techniques of Bronze Age Masters.

Artist Bio:
Victoria Lansford creates one-of-akind wearable pieces of art and art objects that recall the mystery and splendor of the ancient world, yet bring forth her own provocative vision. She has pushed the boundaries of design and execution in many old world techniques, including high relief Eastern repoussé, Russian filigree, chain making, and granulation in 20 years of comprehensive exploration of metal as art.

Victoria's award winning work has been featured in Metalsmith magazine’s 2007 Exhibition in Print, Chasing & Repoussé by Nancy Megan Corwin, Brynmorgen Press (2009), The Jeweler’s Studio Handbook, by Brandon Holschuh, Quarry Books(2009), multiple issues of Lapidary Journal: Jewelry Artist magazine, and Art Jewelry magazine, and on Home & Garden Television’s 2007 season of That’s Clever.

A long time educator in the arts, she is committed to sustaining ancient techniques through workshops and publications. She served as head of the Jewelry and Metalsmithing department at Spruill Center for the Arts in Atlanta from 1997 to (2004, creating its comprehensive program and has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Her instructional publications in the series, Metal Techniques of Bronze Age Masters, including Russian Filigree (DVD, 2006), Rings (DVD, 2008), and A& Chained Up (paperback, 2008) have sold throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and North and South America. Victoria’s internationally collected artwork is available in art galleries throughout the U.S. and through her website.
